Hollinger Inc. TSX: [HLG.C]
Hollinger Inc. is controlled by Canadian-based Ravelston Corporation, which was set up as a personal holding company for Canadian-born businessman Conrad Black who gave up his Canadian citizenship to become Lord Black of Crossharbour in Britain's House of Lords. On April 20, 2005, Conrad Black and business partner David Radler resigned from Ravelston to facilitate a filing for bankruptcy protection. Ravelston is now in the hands of court-appointed receiver RSM Richter.
The company began as Hollinger Gold Mines in 1909 and later became Hollinger Mines, owner of one of the world's largest gold mines near Timmins, Ontario. It was acquired by E.P. Taylor's conglomerate, Argus Corp.
