Holmes Chapel

Known formerly as Church Hulme, Holmes Chapel is a village in central Cheshire, in Congleton borough. Population (2001 census): 5,669. It is located at the junction of the A50 and A54, close to the M6 motorway. According to the Index of Deprivation, the village ranks as the 18th least deprived ward in the United Kingdom (out of 8,414). Holmes Chapel has rail links to Manchester and Crewe, making it a good base for commuting.
The village has a number of good quality pubs including the recently refurbished George and Dragon, a shopping precinct with supermarket and a library, which has recently had an extension.
The village secondary school Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School (HCCS) opened in 1978. Head teachers have been Mr. Knight, Mrs Duffy and the present head teacher is Dennis Oliver, who has been there since 1998. His results in his time there prove him to be running a tight ship.
2.5 miles (4km) east of the village of Holmes Chapel lies the Swettenham Meadows nature reserve.
Goostrey lies to the north of Holmes Chapel.
