Holzminden

Holzminden is a city in Lower Saxony, Germany with a population of 22,000 (as of 2002). It is located on the River Weser, and is capital of the District of Holzminden.
History
Holzminden was first mentioned in the 9th century as Holtesmeni; however, the name did originally not refer to the later city, but to the village of Altendorf, which was incorporated to the city in 1922.
Holzminden itself was founded around 1200 as a planned city by the counts of Everstein.
From the 16th century until 1942, Holzminden belonged to Brunswick-Lüneburg.
Twinning
Holzminden is twinned with Leven in Scotland and Cherbourg in France.
