"Home Sweet Homediddly-Dum-Doodily" is the third episode of The Simpsons
Synopsis
Homer gives Marge a surprise trip to a relaxation center, abandoning the children under the ineffective care of Grampa. Meanwhile, Bart has gotten lice from Milhouse's monkey, forcing him to have his clothes burned by the school. Lisa has had her shoes stolen by bullies. They come home wearing bags, finding that their parents are not home and the child welfare agency (prompted by Principal Skinner) has taken offense at the poor conditions of the house. (Most of the work needing to be done has simply been postponed, but the agency misinterprets such signals as a stack of 20-year-old newspapers obtained for Lisa's history project.) Homer and Marge arrive as they take Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, convincing Marge and Homer that they're bad parents. The Simpson kids are taken to a foster home - right next door, at the house of Ned Flanders. The kids have to get used to Flanders' style nachos, bedtime when there's still light and hours of Bible bombardment. Bart and Lisa hate it, but Maggie enjoys being there (just because she's a baby). When Ned finds out that none of the Simpsons were baptized, he faints and takes it upon himself to give the kids a proper baptism. Meanwhile, Homer and Marge take classes to become better parents, and after some difficulties, they manage to do so. But when they go to pick up the kids, they see only a note saying "Gone Baptizin'". They quickly head for the Springfield River, where Ned is about to baptize Bart. Homer arrives at the scene just when Flanders was about to sprinkle holy water over Bart's head (interestingly, baptism as practiced by Protestant and Evangelical congregations tend not to involve the use of holy water at all). Homer pulled Bart over and the holy water fell upon Homer's head instead, baptizing him and apparently burning him. Homer had a moment of grace after his baptism but quickly reverted back to his old self and angrily reclaimed his kids from the Flanders. Nevertheless, Maggie would rather stay with the Flanders than with Homer, Bart and Lisa, until Marge showed up. The Simpson family is back together again, and they head home together.
Alternate versions
In the original broadcast version, Milhouse made a reference to Pier 1 Imports, but after the store complained about this, the name was changed to "Trader Pete's" in the reruns and the syndicated versions. The "Pier 1" reference was restored on the Season 7 DVD Collection (though the English and the Spanish subtitles say "Trader Pete's") and in the UK airings since Pier 1 Imports isn't that well known in the UK.Quotes
- Maude: Soon, you'll be part of the Flanders flock.
Bart: Ha ha, you're going to be Lisa Flanders.
Lisa: You're going to be Bart Flanders.
(Bart yelps in horror) - Marge: [after seeing Ned's "Gone Baptizin'" note] He's going to baptize our children?
Homer: Oh no! In the eyes of God, they'll be Flandereseseses! - Homer: To find Flanders, I just have to think like Flanders.
Homer's brain: I'm a big four-eyed lame-o, and I wear the same stupid sweater every day and—
Homer: The Springfield river! - Bart: Wow, Dad, you took a baptismal for me. How do you feel?
Homer: [reverently] Oh, Bartholomew, I feel like St. Augustine of Hippo after his conversion by Ambrose of Milan.
Ned: Wait! Homer, what did you just say?
Homer: I said shut your ugly face, Flanders!
Ned: Oh, fair enough. - Marge: So what was it like at the Flanders' house?
Homer: Yeah, gimme all the dirt.
Lisa: Let's see. Dirt... dirt.. well, there wasn't really much dirt.
Bart: There was a bunch of old paint cans in the garage, though.
Homer: [scoffs] Old Painty-Can Ned. - Welfare Guy: And you've all passed the drug test. Except for Marge. Marge, you tested positive for crack and PCP.
Marge: Oh my!
*time passes*
Welfare Guy: Okay, the retest says you're clean. Sorry about the mistake.
Marge: The only thing I'm high on is love. Love for my son and daughters. Yes, a little LSD is all I need.

While the Flanders were driving to the Springfield river with the Simpsons' children, Maggie, who was sitting at the front row, spun her head around to look at Bart and Lisa. This is a parody of the infamous head-spinning scene from The Exorcist.External links
