The of the Mikawa province were descendants of Fujiwara Kanemichi. The two branches of the Honda were very loyal retainers under Tokugawa Ieyasu. The best known retainers of the Honda under the Tokugawa would be Honda Tadakatsu, and Honda Masanobu. The representatives of the two branches of the Honda were Honda Shigetsugu and Honda Yasushige.
