Hornsea Mere

Generally described as the largest natural lake in Yorkshire Hornsea Mere is to the west of Hornsea in the East Riding. It is a popular tourist attraction offering visitors rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing.
It is also a Special Protection Area as a result of its shallowness that results in a diverse range of swamp and fen plants. It hosts many species of birds during throughout the year and is of international importance for a migratory population of gadwall.
It was featured on the television programme Seven Natural Wonders as one of the wonders of Yorkshire.
