Horseshoe Falls, Wales

Encyclopedia : H : HO : HOR : Horseshoe Falls, Wales

There are other Horseshoe Falls elsewhere in the world

The Horseshoe Falls is an artificially created waterfall on the River Dee in north Wales, approximately three miles west of the town of Llangollen.

The distinctively shaped weir helps create a pool of water that can be pumped (by an adjacent pumping station) to provide water for the Llangollen Canal, and was originally designed and constructed in 1808 by civil engineer Thomas Telford.
