[Houten] is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. The expected population in 2015 is 50.000.

The municipality of Houten consists of the following cities, towns, villages and/or districts: 't Goy (pop. 606 as of 2002), Houten (pop. 38,062), Schalkwijk (pop. 1,946), Tull en 't Waal (pop. 665).
The town Houten
The main town of the municipality is Houten. It lies about 9 km southeast of Utrecht.
In 2001, the town of Houten had 32243 inhabitants. The built-up area was 5.08 km2, and contained 11486 residences.Statistics Netherlands (CBS), Bevolkingskernen in Nederland 2001 [link]. Transportation
A tram operates between Houten railway station and Houten Castellum, running parallel to the railway. This is a temporary measure until the railway itself is widened with more tracks. This service is line 23, train series 9000. See also Transport in the Netherlands.
