Howard Porter is a comic book artist from southern Connecticut. He graduated from Paier College of Art in Connecticut where he majored in illustration. One of his teachers there was Frank McLaughlin. McLaughlin also worked as a comic book inker and he began to give Porter work assisting him in his inking jobs which led Porter to assist other inkers and eventually find work for himself in the industry.
Porter eventually became a Penciller, and his first major run on a title came with The Ray (vol.2) in 1994-1995, where he worked with writer Christopher Priest. Shortly after that run, Porter worked on DC Comics major summer crossover event in 1995, Underworld Unleashed with writer Mark Waid.
The next major work from Porter came when he collaborated with writer Grant Morrison and inker John Dell on JLA, (1997 - 2000). In the title the creators successfully relaunched the Justice League and the series remained a bestseller throughout their run.
After leaving JLA, it was rumoured that Porter would become a penciller on one of the monthly Superman titles, but instead he left comics to work in the banking sector, doing graphic design work for Credit Suisse First Boston.
However in 2003 Porter left that job and opened an artists' studio with fellow penciller Ron Garney. Porter returned to comics with a six issue run on Fantastic Four, (reuniting with writer Mark Waid) later that year.
In July 2004 Porter signed a two year exclusive contract with DC comics, and he began a run as regular penciller of The Flash with writer Geoff Johns and inker John Livesay (2004-2005).
In 2006, DC announced that he will pencil the upcoming limited series The Trials of Shazam! where he is slated to work with writer Judd Winick.
