Hung Hom (Chinese: 紅磡, Cantonese IPA: /həʊŋ11 hɐm33/; Jyutping: hung4 ham3; Mandarin Pinyin: Hóngkàn; lit. "red cliff"; formerly Kowloon 九龍) is a station on the KCR East Rail in Hong Kong. It is located in Hung Hom, Kowloon.
This station was opened in 1974 because the old Kowloon Station at Tsim Sha Tsui was too small, had no room for expansion and was therefore demolished in the same year (although the clocktower still stands). This new Kowloon Station, later renamed Hung Hom Station, served as the terminus of East Rail (KCRC) until 24 October 2004, when the East Tsim Sha Tsui Station at TST East was opened. The expanded part of the concourse was opened in 2001, making it the largest KCR station, until East Tsim Sha Tsui Station opened.
It now serves as the midway station of East Rail, as well as the terminus of intercity services with destinations to major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, as well as Zhaoqing, Foshan, Dongguan in Guangdong.
Before the relocation of Kowloon terminus from Tsim Sha Tsui to Hung Hom in 1974, a station named Hung Hom was located at Chatham Road South, next to the then coastline of Hung Hom Bay and near Gun Club Hill Barracks.
It should be noted that Hung Hom still carries signage as well as on the roads/area nearby referring to the Hung Hom transport interchange as "Railway Terminus", East Tsim Sha Tsui is the current terminus, although this will revert back to Hung Hom when the Kowloon Southern Link is opened in 2009, where the East Rail (KCRC) will meet the West Rail (KCRC) at Hung Hom (and East Tsim Sha Tsui will become a West Rail station respectively.
