Hurricane Electric Internet Services [("HE.NET")] is a major international Internet Backbone and Colocation Provider with a worldwide OC192 fiber optic Internet backbone connecting to over 500 other major Internet networks and offering bandwidth and colocation services at 18 data centers throughout the US and Europe.
History
Founded in 1994 by Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric quickly began to grow at a rate of over 100% increase per year and has sustained this rate for the last 13 years. Hurricane Electric systematically added connectivity to major network locations increasing peering, connectivity and customers. As fast as the company started major corporations recognized the benefits of Hurricane network technical expertise and support. In 1998 Hurricane Electric purchased east coast network and colocation services company Lightning Internet (Lightning.net). This helped complete Hurricane Electric's national US presence and begun the European network growth.In June of 2001 Hurricane Electric opened its state-of-the-art Fremont colocation facility which with its 42,000 square feet of colocation space. With the opening of this 5th facility Hurricane moved its HQ to Fremont.
Between 2001 and 2006 Hurricane expanded it Internet backbone presence into 15 additional colocation and major network hub facilities.
In March of 2006, Hurricane Electric opened it second Fremont colocation facility. This facility is over 208,000 square feet and is one of the largest colocation facilities in Silicon Valley and the state of California.
