Hyach

The Hyach are a minor race on the science fiction television series Babylon 5, and members of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds. Hyach are huminoid they are slightly shorter on average than a human, and have bald lumpy heads.

Their ambassador has a casual friendship with Dr. Stephen Franklin. She brings him a problem - the Hyach birth rate is declining, and few of those born survive. After much work he finds that the Hyach co-evolved with a related race called the Hyach-do who were killed off several centuries ago. Today's Hyach are deeply ashamed of this genocide and forbid mentioning it or the Hyach-do to offworlders. Franklin first deduces the existence of the Hyach-do from genetic evidence contained in the Hyach tissue samples he's given, then finds confirmation in Drazi historical records. He also finds the cause of the current Hyach problems - they need to crossbreed with the Hyach-do occasionally.
The solution was that the Hyach admited their genocidal crime and asked the League of Non-aligned worlds for help finding a 'cure'.
