Hydrogenolysis

Hydrogenolysis is a chemical reaction in which a compound is decomposed -- a molecule is broken into smaller molecules by the reaction of hydrogen. It is a type of hydrogenation.
A classic example of hydrogenolysis is debenzylation - the removal of a benzyl protecting group.
