The meaning of the song is quite obviously about a person who is deranged. And the lines:- ''You lock me up in a padded room
- ''Chain me to the floor
However others believe since it was written by Crosby, it may have been about his experiences with drugs, and therefore his fear of becoming insane due to his drug abuse.
