"I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" was the 2004 debut single by American rock band My Chemical Romance, lifted from the same year's album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. It reached #86 in the US singles charts, and #19 in the United Kingdom. The song's lyrics deal with emotional issues relating to relationship break-ups, in particular lead singer Gerard Way's high school experiences of adolescent loneliness and angst. The song is accompanied by a memorable video depicting life inside a fictional American high school in the form of a fake movie trailer. The song's overtly sentimental lyrics ushered people to label the band as "emo". The song was re-released in November 2005.
