IN2TV

Encyclopedia : I : IN : IN2 : IN2TV

In2TV is a free Internet entertainment service provided by AOL that offers screenings of classic television programs.

The service was initiated in March, 2006. AOL struck a deal with Warner Bros. Television to make available almost the studio's entire library of shows for distribution on the Internet. The 1970s TV series Welcome Back Kotter was in2tv's marquee offering.

Among the other shows available: Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Chico and the Man, Kung Fu, Hawaiian Eye, The F.B.I., Eight is Enough, Growing Pains, F Troop, and as of June 13, 2006, most of the Superman catalog (including The Adventures of Superman, , and the Max Fleischer cartoons). These shows are presented complete and uncut for the first time since their original network airings. They are also available free (with about 2 minutes of ads played per episode) online to anyone in the United States, regardless of whether or not they subscribe to AOL. In addition, the site contains other interactive features such as trivia quizzes and games. Newer versions of Winamp 5 also have support for the In2TV library.

A consequence of the shows' availability is these programs cannot currently be distributed in syndication, although The F.B.I. currently airs on the American Life Network.

Plans are in the works for other programs from other studios to be made available.
