Each iShare fund tracks a bond or stock market index. They are listed on the American Stock Exchange, the New York Stock Exchange, the Toronto Stock Exchange (under the iUnits brand), or any of several European stock exchanges.
In the United States Harold Evensky, a CFP(R) and Financial editor/author in Coral Gables, in 2003 began to write financial articles using iShares and ETFs as interchangeable terms. This linking was used by Barclays Global Investors in their late 2005 advertising campaign to personal advisors by having established financial planners like Deena Katz CFP(R) promoting iShares over a generic ETF term.
iShares and sports sponsorship
On 16 June 2006, the Phonak Hearing Systems Pro Cycling Team, a elite professional road bicycle racing team on the UCI ProTour, announced that presenting sponsor iShares has signed a three-year contract (2007-2009) to become the team's title sponsor, thus the team's name will be iShares, starting with the 2007 UCI ProTour season.
