The Self-Referencing I Ching : using the I Ching to describe itself
The following material is drawn from analysis of the binary sequence of the hexagrams where the hexagrams are derived from recursion of yin/yang and so showing a property of the method - the hexagrams are all linked together and contribute to the expression of, the description of, each hexagram.
- The skeletal form of hexagram 52 is described by analogy to the under-exaggerated properties of hexagram 36 where we have a generic focus on covering up the 'light', keeping it hidden, internal. This is expressed in 52 with its focus on 'within' - mountain as base covers being stopped, blocked that is refined when we use that suffering to develop quality control - discernment (mountain in top). There is a strong link of Mountain to Buddhist principles re learning from suffering, self-restraint etc... all focused on the light 'within', a theme shared with 36.
