Ibrahim Idris (b. 1944) has been governor of Kogi State in Nigeria since 29 May 2003. He is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). Ibro as he is popularly called, is an Igala and is from Omala. Governor Idris had very humble beginnings but worked his way to financial greatness. Prior to his electoral success in the general elections of 2003, Idris was a successful businessman and furniture maker. Among his businesses is the three star IBRO hotel in Abuja. He was dismissed by his opponents in the 2003 elections as a political greenhorn. However, he capitalised on the weaknesses of his predecessor Prince Abubakar Audu and all his other opponents to emerge winner.
