Ice hockey at the 1936 Winter Olympics

Encyclopedia : I : IC : ICE : Ice hockey at the 1936 Winter Olympics

In a shocking upset at the 1936 Winter Olympics, the perpetual powerhouse Canada did not win Gold. Instead, Great Britain won the men's ice hockey competition, although all but one player had trained and played previously in Canada sometime during their career. However, all but one of the British team players were actually British. It is a common misconception that the British team was made up of Canadians. Only one player was actually born in Canada.

Medal Round

N.B. - After the semifinal round, officials announced that any games played between finalists in the semifinals would be counted as games in the finals. Thus, the 11 February games of Canada vs. Great Britain and the United States vs. Czechoslovakia were counted as games in the final round, hence their replication in both tables. [link]
