Idukki Dam

The Idukki Dam is built on the Periyar River, over the Kuravan and Kurathi Hills in the southern Indian state of Kerala. At 167.68 meters, it is highest arch dam in Asia. It started generating power on 4 October 1975. The reservoir is comprised of three dams viz, Idukki, Cheruthoni and Kulamavu. Of the three Idukki dam is the only arch dam. The water is taken through pipeline to Moolamattom power house for electricity production. The dam was constructed with Canadian technical collaboration.
