Ikeda clan
Encyclopedia : I : IK : IKE : Ikeda clan
The Ikeda clan of the Owari province were direct descendants of Minamoto Yorimitsu. Yorimitsu's grandson, Yasumasa was the one who adopted the surname of "Ikeda". The origins of the Ikeda clan are not truly known, and some believe that it was truly descended from the Kusunoki clan. During the 16th century, the Ikeda's fame greatly rose due to following the ways of the "Three Unifiers" (consisting of Oda Nobunaga, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi). Tsunetoshi then went on to serve under Oda Nobuhide; along with Ikeda Nobuteru also going on to serve under the Oda, and a personal friend of Hideyoshi.
During the Battle of Nagakute, Nobuteru was to be killed, following the son of Nobuteru, Ikeda Terumasa to side with Ieyasu during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, and becoming one of the very richest Daimyo in Japan. The Ikeda then remained weathly throughout the whole Edo period.
