Ilijaš is a municipality located north east of the inner city of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the 2002 census, the population of the municipality is at 15,277 residents. Ethnically, there is a majority of 13,401 Bosniaks (87.8%), 1,072 are Serbs (7%), 644 are Croats (4.2%), and 160 are classified as others (1%).

The municipality of Ilijaš is constructed by two parts. A town of Ilijaš and an upper municipality. The town of Ilijaš is completed by several places. The biggest and most urban is the center and it has about 10,000 residents, second is the neighborhood of Misoča, in the Bosnian language known as Naselje Misoča. It is the biggest community in the municipality of Ilijaš with 1500 residents. Ethnically, there is majority of Bosniaks of about 1300 people, 250 are Serbs, 50 are Croats, with none classified as others. Otherwise, the community of Misoča is known as the place with the first organized Bosniak defence against Serbian forces.

Other places, of the municipality of Ilijaš, are Podlugovi, Lješevo, Stari Ilijaš and Malešići.
