Image News

Encyclopedia : I : IM : IMA : Image News

Image News is a television news music package composed by American musician Frank Gari. Composed in 1995, the package features up to 800 cuts of opens, closes, stingers, bumpers and promo beds in a hard news format, with most of the music featuring a xylophone ticker sound. It has been used by at least 45 television stations in the United States.

In the mid-1990s, Hearst-Argyle Television commissioned two news packages, the A Package and the B Package, for its television stations. The A Package was later renamed Image News by Gari in an attempt to attract stations outside of the Hearst-Argyle stations group, and was very successful. The B Package was also marketed to other stations, and has enjoyed some of the same success.

While the Hearst stations have dropped the package in favour of Jerome Gilmer's "Hearst TV News Music Package", Image News continues to be a popular package, and has enjoyed several late updates.
