Encyclopedia : I : IN : INS : Inés Suárez
Inés de Suárez (1507(?) - 1580) was a Spanish conquistadora (female conquistador).
There is also a park in Providencia, Santiago named after her. This park lies between Francisco Bilbao and Vasconia streets.
She came to the Americas around 1537, around the age of thirty, in search of her husband. After days of continuous searching in numerous South American countries, she found the dead body of her husband. Shortly afterwards, Suarez became the mistress of Pedro de Valdivia, the conqueror of Chile. She successfully defended Santiago against an attack of Native Americans in 1541.
