History

Interbrew's origins can be traced to the founding of the Den Horen brewery in 1366. In 1717 the name of the brewery was changed to Artois when Sebastian Artois, the brewery's Master Brewer, purchased the brewery. Artois became a large and successful company, and in 1987 merged with Breweries Piedboeuf to form Interbrew, one of the world's largest brewers. The combined company grew rapidly by acquisition during the 1990s.

Ambev was a Brazilian beer company formed by a merger in 1999 between the Brahma and Antarctica breweries. It had a dominant position in South America and the Caribbean.

In 2004 the two companies merged to form InBev.

Belgium

In Belgium, Stella is promoted as Mijn huis is waar mijn Stella staat (My home is where my Stella is). InBev has production sites at Brussels, Jupille and Leuven.

InBev caused protests, including one by the Flemish Parliament, when it announced in 2005 and confirmed in 2006 that it would move the Hoegaarden Brewery to the municipality of Jupille in Liège[[Citing sources citation needed]].
