In Justice was an American television police procedural created by Michelle King and Robert King. The series began airing on January 1, 2006 on ABC as a midseason replacement, and resumed airing on its regular night and time on Fridays at 9 p.m. EST. It was canceled after its 13-episode run on March 31, 2006.

The Storyline

There are many procedural shows on television that aim to put people into jail. In Justice adds an interesting twist to the common drama—it focuses on freeing wrongly convicted criminals. Kyle MacLachlan (of the cult series Twin Peaks) stars as David Swain, the head of a high-profile organization called the National Justice Project (commonly abbreviated as "NJP") in the San Francisco Bay Area, along with his partner, Charles Conti (portrayed by Jason O'Mara). Members of the National Justice Project work together to overturn wrongful convictions, liberate the falsely accused and discover the identity of those who are really to blame.

Each new episode starts out with "what the jury believed," usually a scene in which the person who was wrongly convicted acts out the crime. Throughout the show, David and Charles unravel many clues to how and why the person they are trying to exonerate was convicted in the first place.

Episodes

The show's "sneak-peek" episode aired on January 1, 2006, while the original series pilot was aired on January 6, 2006. According to Variety, the program won its timeslot in the January 1 sneak airing and finished second in its January 6 timeslot, the latter just slightly behind CBS's Close to Home.[link] Since then, the show is being considered a "breakout new series" for ABC and has raised ABC's ratings in the Friday timeslot, something ABC has been wanting to achieve for over five years.

01. Brothers And Sisters #103 (Special Premiere): January 1, 2006; In the premiere episode, the National Justice Project takes on the case of a 32-year-old former junkie imprisoned for murdering her father while robbing his house.

02. Pilot #101: January 6, 2006; The wife of a man convicted of robbery and murder 13 years earlier contacts the National Justice Project - an agency that focuses on cases where justice has not been served and innocent people have been wrongly convicted of crimes they did not commit -- to clear her husband's name. She also yearns to introduce him to the son he has never known while incarcerated.

03. Golden Boy #102: January 13, 2006; When a high school star athlete is convicted of murder, his sister (Marisol Nichols, Blind Justice) turns to the National Justice Project as her last hope for freeing him after eight years of incarceration.

04. Confessions #105: January 20, 2006; Conti takes a personal interest in trying to free a teenager convicted of killing his sister.

05. Another Country #104: January 27, 2006; A young African-American male has been in jail for six years for the murder of an unborn child during a burglary that involved a violent struggle with the mother.

The Ten Percenter #107: February 3, 2006; Sonya and Brianna suspect prosecutorial misconduct when a young woman is convicted of an execution-style murder of an elderly married couple, but their efforts to exonerate her are complicated by Swain's romantic relationship with the former prosecutor in the case.

07. Cost Of Freedom #106: February 10, 2006; Conti and Swain suspect that an informant for a federal law enforcement group is a member of a far-right militia involved in a bank robbery murder for which their client was wrongfully convicted.

08. The Public Burning #108: February 17, 2006; The justice team tries to save a mentally impaired man in his twenties from execution after he's convicted of the murder of a priest at the church that gave him shelter.

09. Victims #109: March 3, 2006; When the NJP decides to help a convicted rapist, some of the NJP members side with the victim, who stands by her eye-witness testimony.

10. Badge Of Honor #110: March 10, 2006; Old wounds are opened for Conti when the NJP team re-investigates the case of a cop accused of killing another cop and Conti has to re-enter the world of his former fellow police officers.

11. Lovers #111: March 17, 2006; An anonymous tip with what appears to be evidence of a taped confession to a crime leads the NJP team to reinvestigate a young couple already convicted of the same crime.

12. Side Man #112: March 24, 2006; Brianna becomes personally involved when she advocates for a man serving 30 years for stealing a case of vodka because it was his third strike.

13. Crossing the Line #113: March 31, 2006; When a murder case from Sonya's past re-emerges, the National Justice Project team’s investigation leads them to San Diego and Mexico.
