Increase Sumner

Increase Sumner (November 27, 1746June 7, 1799) was a U.S. political figure. He served as the first Federalist governor of Massachusetts from 1797 to 1799. He died in office on June 7, 1799.

Increase Sumner also served as Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court from 1782-97.  He is interred at the Old Granary Burying Ground in Boston, Massachusetts.
