Indeterminism

Indeterminism is the philosophical belief contradictory to determinism: that there are events which do not correspond with determinism (and therefore have no cause). There are generally three types of indeterminists. One version holds that some events are uncaused, another holds that there are nondeterministically caused events, and the third holds that there are agent-caused events.

Indeterminism is also the name of an industrial rock band from Cleveland, Ohio.

Current science suggests that indeterminism is present with the constituents of our universe; however, quantum mechanics is a way of determining probabilities of these supposedly random events. See the uncertainty principle.
