Infallibilism
Encyclopedia : I : IN : INF : Infallibilism
Infallibilsm is, in philosophy and epistemology, the belief that certain knowledge or absolute truth is unattainable. The belief is opposed to fallibilism, which is the belief that knowledge is attainable without certainty. In religion, infallibilism is the belief that certain texts or persons are incapable of being in the wrong. The most famous example of this is probably the Catholic doctrine of Papal Infallibility, under which the Pope is considered infallible in certain matters of doctrine pertaining to faith and morals, when his statements are promulgated ex cathedra.
