Louis, Duke of Beja.

Louis or Lewis, Duke of Beja (Portuguese: Luís, pron. IPA: /lu'iʃ/) was a Portuguese Prince son of King Manuel I of Portugal and his second wife Maria of Aragon.

Luís was born in Abrantes on March 3 1506. He was made fifth Duke of Beja and also general of the kingdom and Prior of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, with its Portuguese headquarters in Crato.

He did not married but had a natural son of Violante Gomes: Anthony, Prior of Crato, later legitimated. Anthony would be one of the claimants to the throne after the disaster of Alcazarquivir and subsequent death of King Sebastian of Portugal and the dynastic crisis that followed, and, according to some historians, the 18th King of Portugal during the year of 1580.

Luís would died before those events on November 27 1555 in Lisbon.
