Instagib
Encyclopedia : I : IN : INS : Instagib
Derived from the term gib (the gory body fragment of an opposing player killed in a first-person shooter), Instagib is a mutator or alternate gametype in many first person shooter games. All players carry only a single weapon, which has infinite ammunition and fires instantly lethal shots with infinite velocity, at a low rate of fire. Since everyone always has the same weapon and there is no health, ammo or other pickups to collect, gameplay tends to have a heavy emphasis on reflexes, hand-eye coordination and positioning, as opposed to resource management and control. Because every single shot can instantly explode an enemy from any range, gameplay also tends to be very fast paced.
Instagib mainly became popular in Unreal Tournament, where the single weapon was a superpowered shockrifle. In Quake III Arena, Instagib is played with a railgun with infinite ammunition. Some games have more than a single instagib gametype, with small variations like the visual representation of the shots, or the addition of a sniper scope on the weapons.
