Intergalactic Wanderer

Encyclopedia : I : IN : INT : Intergalactic Wanderer

The Intergalactic Wanderer (also known as the Intergalactic Tramp, Globular Cluster NGC 2419, or NGC 2419) is a globular cluster in the constellation Lynx. It was discovered by William Herschel on December 31, 1788. NGC 2419 is at a distance of about 300,000 light years away from the solar system and at the same distance from the galactic center. It is further away from galactic center than the Magellanic Clouds, and can questionably be assigned as being an element of the Milky Way. As its moniker suggests, it is more likely to be considered an intergalactic globular cluster barely in orbit around the Milky Way.
