- For the governing body of ice hockey, see International Ice Hockey Federation.
The FIH was founded on January 7, 1924 in Paris, in response to hockey's omission from the programme of the 1924 Paris Olympic Games. The original six founding members represented both men's and women's hockey in their respective countries: Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Hungary, Spain and Switzerland.
Today, the FIH consists of five continental associations and 112 member associations.
