The major field hockey international tournaments are considered as the following:
- Olympic Games - held every four years.
- World Hockey Cup - held every four years, in between the Olympics.
- Champions Trophy - currently held every year, for the top 6 ranked nations.
- Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament - held annaully in Malaysia, open for the world to participate.
