Interstellar Alliance

Often used in science fiction works, an Interstellar Alliance is an alliance between two or more distinct solar systems. Often times in these pieces, there are two or more opposing alliances of varying strengths, or a rebel network opposing a single alliance. If faster-than-light travel is ever developed, these types of organizations could theoretically develop in a similar fashion to countries and alliances on Earth.
