Investcorp is a publicly traded private equity boutique investment firm based in Bahrain. Investcorp was founded in 1982 by Nemir A. Kirdar, an Iraqi native, and has offices in Bahrain, New York City and London.

Investcorp specializes in corporate investment and technology investment (venture capital) in North America and Western Europe, real estate investment in the United States and global asset management. Since its founding, Investcorp has made investments with a combined value of US$25 billion.

Among its current U.S. holdings are publishing firm SourceMedia (formerly Thomson Media), Desert Passage, and high-end retailer Saks Incorporated. It formerly held ice cream maker Carvel.

Investcorp is incorporated as a Bahraini Public Shareholding Company in Bahrain and licensed as an investment bank under the regulatory supervision of the Bahrain Monetary Agency, the leading regulator in the Gulf. Investcorp was established to facilitate the provision of equity and debt capital to Western companies that have high potential for growth. As a source to provide the equity portion for such investments, Investcorp has focussed on the prime institutions and top tier individuals in the six GCC countries of the Arabian Gulf who have a particular demand for international alternative investments. The Gulf states of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the United Arab Emirates generate large annual surplus funds that are earmarked for such investments.

Investcorp has had, from the outset, a flat corporate structure with no central headquarters but three equal and complementary offices located in New York, London and Bahrain. 40% of Investcorp is owned by more than half of its total staff. A further 40% is owned by a group of the Firm's most prominent clients, some of whom are also Directors of the Firm. Accordingly, 80% of Investcorp's stock is held by the Firm's management and this group of clients. This ensures that Investcorp remains a management-driven firm, in the hands of those who have created its success. The balance of the stock is held by public shareholders through Investcorp's listing on the Bahrain Stock Exchange.
