Iranian plateau

Encyclopedia : I : IR : IRA : Iranian plateau

The Iranian plateau is a major geologic formation in the Middle East that overlaps into both Central Asia and South Asia. It covers much of Iran (roughly 2/3 of the country from the Zagros Mountains eastwards), Afghanistan (mainly the southern and eastern portions of the country), western Pakistan (namely Balochistan and the North West Frontier Province), and the southern and eastern portions of Turkmenistan as well as a all of Azarbaijan.

It stretches south of the Alborz Mountains to the coast. Its western edge is marked by the Zagros Mountains and in the east it ends with the Hindu Kush range.
