|} NGC 55 (also known as ESO 293-G050) is a barred irregular galaxy about 7 million light-years away in the constellation Sculptor. It is a member of the Sculptor group of galaxies, but its radial motion is consistent with membership to the Local Group. It appears bright and cigar-shaped on the sky due to its close distance and near edge-on orientation with respect to the Earth, morphologically similar to the Large Magellanic Cloud.
