Isbister's Settlement
Encyclopedia : I : IS : ISB : Isbister's Settlement
Isbister's Settlement is the name by which the Canadian city of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan was originally known in the mid 1860s. James Isbister began farming on the site in 1862, and was followed by a number of Anglo-Metis families. In 1866 the Rev. James Nisbet established a mission among the Cree at the point and named it Prince Albert in honour of Queen Victoria's consort. The name stuck to the community and Isbister's Settlement was no more.
