Host

Italy is hosting the Winter Olympics for the second time. The 1956 Winter Olympics were held in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Cortina d'Ampezzo had also been awarded the 1944 Winter Olympics which were cancelled due to World War II.

Flag bearer

Italy's flag bearer for the opening ceremony was figure skater Carolina Kostner. Kostner's cousin, Isolde Kostner, was Italy's flag bearer at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Athlete's Oath

Italian skiier Giorgio Rocca delivered the Olympic Oath at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.

    In Men’s Halfpipe, there were two qualifying runs. The top 6 men from each qualifying run were advanced to the finals. In the first qualifying run, the top 6 scores ranged from 39.4 - 43.8 points. In the second qualifying run, the top 6 scores ranged from a 37.9 - 45.3 points.
