Izumi Matsumoto

Encyclopedia : I : IZ : IZU : Izumi Matsumoto

Izumi Matsumoto (まつもと泉 Matsumoto Izumi, born October 13, 1958) is the nickname used by Kazuya Terashima, a manga-ka best known for Kimagure Orange Road. His career starts on 1982, publishing his comic "Milk report" on the manga magazine Fresh Jump. But the real success comes on 1984, publishing on the same magazine his masterpiece Kimagure Orange Road. Other works: Sesame Street, Black Moon.

His nickname is a pun of Izumi Takemoto, changing take (bumboo) to matsu (pine). His early works are heavily influenced by Takemoto.

He has recently revealed that he's afflicted with a cerebrospinal fluid disease (stemming from a car accident when he was 3 years old) that has forced him to take 6 years off work, and now hopes to bring attention to this disorder through his comics. [link]
