Izumo (出雲市; -shi) is a city located in Shimane, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 87,940 and the density of 510.30 persons per km². The total area is 172.33 km².The city was founded on November 3, 1941.
At a distance from the city is the Great shinto shrine of Izumo.
A variety of soba noodles called "Izumo soba" is named after the city.
In the anime and manga Shaman King, the main character Yoh Asakura is from Izumo.
In the video game , a town is named Izumo that follows the story of the Kushinada.
On March 22, 2005, the city merged with cities of Hirata and four cities from Hikawa District to form the new city of Izumo.
