J. G. Boswell

James G. (Jim) Boswell, II, is a farmer with large land holdings in California's Central Valley. Major operations are located near Corcoran, California and on the sometimes dried up lakebed of Tulare Lake. His company, J.G. Boswell Company, is a major cotton producer and is also the largest producer in the United States of several other crops. The Boswell family emigrated from Georgia in the 1920s. Philanthropic activities are conducted by the James G. Boswell Foundation.
Boswell was educated at Stanford University before taking over his Uncle's cotton operations. Conducting most business from Los Angeles he serves as an able administrator deploying expert farmers, scientists, and other professionals throughout company lands. He also lead the efforts to shrink Tulare Lake and create a farming oasis. Using these lands his company was able to accumulate nearly 150,000 acres and receive $24,000,000 in crop subsidies from 1995-2003. CNN has estimated that his family's net worth is now over a billion dollars.
