Jack & the Beanstalk (1952 film)
Encyclopedia : J : JA : JAC : Jack & the Beanstalk (1952 film)
Jack & the Beanstalk is a 1952 family comedy starring Abbott and Costello (Bud Abbott and Lou Costello). It is a comic revision of the classic fairy tale (see also: Jack and the Beanstalk).
The film's opening and closing segments were shot in sepia tone (most DVD releases feature these sequences in black and white), while the entire "Jack and the Beanstalk" story was shot in color. Unfortunately, due to a lapse in copyright, the original color master reels are in poor condition, though poor-quality reproductions have been seen on public domain DVD releases.
The film was recently restored by Legend Films, who have used colorization technology to restore the color sequences (the opening and closing sequences appear in black and white). This version was released on DVD in 2006.
Jack & the Beanstalk is the first of only two color films made by Abbott and Costello, the other one being Abbott and Costello Meet Captain Kidd.
