Jacmel

Jacmel (Jakmèl in Kréyòl) is a city in southern Haiti with a population of 26,000 (2003 census). Founded in 1698, it is the capital of the department of the Southeast. It is also the capital of an arrondissement of the same name.

Michaëlle Jean, later Governor General of Canada, was born to a Jacmel family.
