Janae Janelle Timmins Hoyland is a fictional character on the popular Australian soap opera Neighbours, portrayed by Eliza Taylor-Cotter. She first appeared in 2005 and currently remains on the show.
She was former nemesis of Serena Bishop (Lara Sacher). She is very flirtatious, and in her own opinion, "Janae Timmins is a dead set hottie." She stole Shazza's boyfriend, Mike. She then met up with Chris Cousens who spiked her drink and tried to take advantage of her, but Stingray, Dylan and Bree arrived in the nick of time to help her. Mike (Alexander Capelli) pressured her into having unprotected sex with him, and she dumped him shortly afterwards. She had counselling sessions with Dr. Karl Kennedy, in which she eventually developed a dependence on Karl, which led to her mother Janelle (Nell Feeney) (and eventually all of Erinsborough) believing that Karl was taking advantage of Janae, almost destroying Karl's career. She then began a relationship with Boyd Hoyland (Kyal Marsh). She then discovered she nearly caught a "life threatening illness", assumed to be HIV. Recently, she was obsessively hinting at Boyd that she wanted a baby; however, this got to him and the pair split. After what appeared to be a chance at reconciliation, Janae agreed to not pressure Boyd about children but then drove him away when she wanted him to keep away from his uni friend Sasha, who she claimed was trying to steal him for herself (which turned out to be true). The pair separated, and Janae attempted to become "smarter" by changing her hair and clothes, watching documentary films and reading (albeit not understanding) broadsheet newspapers, as a response to Max Hoyland's (Stephen Lovatt) comments that Sasha was a better match for Boyd than Janae. Boyd then asked for Janae to take him back but she said no, explaining that she didn't want to get hurt by him any more. Boyd later turned up at her doorstep on one knee and asked her to marry him, she asked for more time to think about it due to the fact she did not wish to be manipulated and be there exactly when he wanted and to be dumped whenever he felt necessary. After a talk with Susan Kinski (Jackie Woodburne) about life married to a doctor, and with Boyd about whether he would choose love over his career, Janae then accepted his proposal and the two set out to spread the news to Janelle's joy and to Max's horror.
