Jane Roe and Richard Roe
Encyclopedia : J : JA : JAN : Jane Roe and Richard Roe
Jane Roe and Richard Roe come from the United States legal tradition of pseudonyms for anonymous litigants. An unnamed plaintiff will be named "Roe" as in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, which declared laws restricting abortion in the first trimester unconstitutional.
Anonymous defendants are typically known as John Doe or Jane Doe.
