Janet Jackson was the self-titled debut album by Janet Jackson.
Released in 1982, it sold poorly but featured Jackson's first Top 100 pop singles, "Young Love" (a Top 10 R&B single) and "Come Give Your Love To Me" (a Top 20 R&B single produced by Foster Sylvers).
Jackson said that her music career was forced by her father at first. Joe Jackson would make her sing fluffy Pop/light R&B songs that she didn't feel comfortable singing and that's why the first two albums were forced, rushed ,and flopped
This and Jackson's 1984 follow-up Dream Street would be precursors to Jackson's groundbreaking sound with the Control album in 1986.

Trivia
- Janet didn't want any of her family members to participate in the making of the album. She wanted it to be her own project, judged by its own merits.
- On the cover photo Janet is photographed in the swimming pool of the Jackson family's home.
- The CD version of "Say You Do" is 1.30 minutes longer than the version on the vinyl album.
