Janus Zeal

Janus Zeal, son of Queen Zeal, younger brother of Schala, is a non-player character (NPC) in the Chrono Trigger video game.
Later in the game, the party learns that Magus was once called Janus, prince of the Kingdom of Zeal in 12,000 B.C. When Lavos appeared in the Ocean Palace, Janus was thrown into the future (probably around 560-570 A.D.), where he became a fearsome mage by 600 A.D., taking the name Magus.
Ironically, he did not exhibit any magical ability as a child but the elders in Zeal believed that he may be destined to become more powerful than all of them. Janus is largely hostile to the party, and remains fairly withdrawn even as an adult. His primary motivation is regaining his sister and seeking revenge on his mother and Lavos. He shows no emotion towards any other character, other than his sister, Schala, and pet cat, Alfador. Gaspar, the Guru of Time, does recognize and congratulate him on his achievements, however.
